Two days of work, some research, and a whole lot of Marvel Comics geek background helped me my first completely solo Super-Feature at my job. What Would Evil Adam Do?

I miss making music. Really, I do. I don't mean just recording and writing alone, I mean the full band dynamic. I miss singing. I miss performing. I miss those 3am diner runs after a show to eat breakfast food for dinner. It was fun to play bass and guitar and even drum in some of the other bands I've been a part of, but nothing was as fun as singing in Evil Adam.

I've recorded material with other people for other projects, written with other people as a band for some defunct stuff, and went absolutely apeshit with my cousin Joe in our project Cousin, but nothing has really taken me to the hilt with live performances like Evil Adam did and I'm starting to feel like nothing ever will again. I'm tempted to just try to find my way into a band that is already formed, only filling the lead singer spot, but at the same time I really would just like to have Evil Adam kicking ass like we were back in 2000. We were playing regularly, had a decent sized fan base and even had some industry contacts, even if they turned out to lead nowhere. The creative juices were in constant flow, live shows were fun, interesting, and gratifying, and I just felt like I was able to showcase my creative muscle in a way that didn't make me feel like I was being underused or ignored.

I have a lot of plans for Evil Adam next year, and really, this year is too crazy for me to even try to put much effort, money, and time into getting a live act for Evil Adam back into the grind, but I'm wondering if it really is the best thing for me. Should I just be part of something else, start something new, keep Evil Adam a recording only thing, or what? I know no matter what I do I must be part of something performance oriented. I have lots of interests, goals, and wants but how many of them are really all that attainable? At what point am I just spreading myself too thin or getting my creative hopes up? It sucks to have so many questions for myself and really no answers. I feel like I know exactly what I want to do but I won't let myself do it by wanting to do to many things or things that are just too big for me to handle. Let's take a look, shall we?

1) Evil Adam
a] Recording: write and record BRAND NEW music, finish "The Root of All Evil" and market/sell it, get press for it, whore it on the internet
b] Videos: Get music videos done for "The Root of All Evil" and have contests for fan made stuff
c] Licensing: Get Evil Adam music in films, video games, etc.
d] Website: Get a new Evil Adam site going. I have a new blog and message board, thankfully, but the rest needs to be updated.
e] Merch: T-Shirts from a non-shitty non-expensive company are a must. Anything else is icing on the evil cake.

2) Cousin
a] Recording: Write and record BRAND NEW music with Joe, finish "The Optimus Primo LP" and re-master the tracks that were on "The Bootydust EP" for it.
b] Videos: Same as Evil Adam
c] Licensing: Same as Evil Adam
d] Website: Now that http://www.bootydust.com/ is live I need to expand it, flesh it out, get Joe to post to it more, and all around grow everything around it.
e] Merch: Same as Evil Adam and then some. I think Cousin has the capability of being way more popular than Evil Adam for multiple reasons.

3] Other Music Projects
a] I've already agreed to writing a bunch of new music with John D. and Jay Curcio for an indie wrestling company but we need a place to do it and equipment to record it to. Otherwise we can't fucking start this goddamn project soon enough!
b] I want to make custom music for movies and video games that also fall outside of Evil Adam and Cousin. Any takers?

4) Movies/Video
a] I want to get some movie scripts done, finalized, and filmed. I have so many ideas, I just have to get them done!
b] I want to direct. I've watched enough shit to have a decent eye for visual media in motion, I just need the time and capability of such.
c] I know I can edit video, I've done it before. Do I really want to do all of this for my own stuff though?
d] I would love to help create and direct music videos for the bands that I also am friends with. That is a lot of you guys out there!
e] I want to act again. I was pretty good at it and it was a lot of fun.

5) Books/Stories
a] I started writing a novel years ago, and the idea grew out of control and too big for me to finish. I need to reign it in and finish it.
b] I eventually want to make a collection of short stories, prose, lyrics, poetry, and other random shit I have written over the years and just get it published. I don't care if anyone buys it as long as I can own a copy that is binded, has a real fucking book cover, and exists.
c] I have about 20 short stories that aren't short enough and thus aren't finished. They might develop into bigger stories/books but I just don't have the drive in me to get them done yet. What will it take?
d] My brain never stops coming up with ideas for things and really my first thought is that I need to become a comic book writer. 4 color art is probably the best format to take my long-winded, episodic, narrative style to, however I don't know anyone that would draw them for me. I can't draw. I want to write comics. Help, please?

6) Video Games
a] This is probably the most difficult thing to get done but I would love to design video games, but only in the realm of game play mechanics and story. I can't program and I can't draw. Yeah, sucks to be me, eh?

So there you have it. What am I to do? Anyone out there have any ideas or avenues for me to get some of this done? Anyone want to team up on some of these or know someone who can help?

Aye, either way, my brain is never idle but my hands always seem to be. I'm in a great relationship that will be 100% official in October and I feel like I have nothing to offer my future wife except love. Sure, that is the most important thing but I wish I could make her proud as well, and hell, I'd love to be proud of myself.

First of all, I call bullshit on the Sean Bell case verdict. I know the police are supposed to shoot to maim, not shoot to kill at first so tell me how 50 shots is ok? The whole fucking thing is just a disgusting mess and sets a precedent as to what we can expect in the future... now on a lighter note:

I went to CNN.com to check out the news on the trial and lo and behold I witness quite possibly the worst advertising timing I have ever seen. Look to the right of the article at the ad that was displayed when I went there. I had to laugh my ass off but still it's just wrong! It wouldn't have been as bad if the kid in the picture was white and had his mouth closed.

In fact, one of the guys in this video mentions that. Now you can find different videos of this all over youtube, and really, we can be thankful that technology has embraced the information age the way that it has.

Do I believe in god? No. Do I think we'd be foolish to dismiss life on other planets? Yes. Do I think that this could easily be government testing? Yes.

Who knows what the fuck it is, but I know for one thing, it ain't going to be easily divulged.

Growing Pains was an ok 80s show, but then Kirk Cameron had to loose his nut and went Crazy Christian on the world. At one point he had a website, which is still up but has been changed, that pretty much did nothing but tell you that you are GOING TO HELL! I saw the site, laughed my ass off, sent it around to folks who also thought it was funny, including many who were Christian themselves, and then came across this awesome clip a few years later.

Ok, now that you've watched that you probably already can think of a thousand things that don't make sense with it, right? Don't worry, you're not the only one, but I think this guy says what we all have to say best:

Nope, didn't do it this year... or for a few years actually, at least not that I remember.

So, for you folks who are reading this now, all 4 of you, I thank you for that, at the very least. I did however do an April Fools joke for work, so if you want to see that one you can check it out right here. Sure, it's not as cool now that you know it is a prank, but still I think I did an ok job of it... right?

Anyhow, I was super busy doing QA on a new section of my job's website so I had to prepare the gag the day before and set it to post the next day. I didn't have time to do something for www.eviladam.com but hopefully I get to the next few years.

The Last Session...

Tonight is the last session for recording at SAE with Zack and Lucain and I hope it goes a lot smoother than last.

Apparently Evil Adam is really a digital age only "band" and anything that is magnetic hates having me around. An 8 hour session was really difficult to get through on Saturday and we got way less than we hoped to done, so hopefully tonight goes a lot less... fucky.

Anyhow, there is so much work to be done to finish this CD and unfortunately too much of it is going to be done outside of the confines of SAE and the sound rooms that they provide. What does that mean? Neighbors of different places will be pissed off a few times in the next year or so.

Oh well!

Last Night's Recording Rocked and More...

So, for those of you keeping track, last night's recording went swimingly well. Jay managed to play his ass off on 4 songs and did one song he has never ever played before within 2 takes. I owe him 50 bucks on a bet for that one (less than 3 takes gets him the gold).

Anyhow, I think this is going to be something special. Zack and Lucain have been producing/engineering these songs at SAE and they are doing a great job, and no matter how much hard work this has been for both Jay and myself we are still having fun with it. So now to start planning the next phase of things, guitar and vocals.

After that, then it is all about mixing and mastering, which I'll only really be giving the yay or nay on how things come together, but I am psyched for them to be done to be able to plan the next step.... MAKING SOME GODDAMN VIDEOS, finally!

I have a few folks that I know for damn sure will most likely be down to help me with that, but I have something interesting planned for the final release of this work and those videos are a big part of it. I think some form of contest may be in order for one video, maybe animated or something, however, I will need a strong grassroots push by folks willing to help me spread the details once they are to come about. Oh, the interwebs, how awesome you are.

Anyhow, I have a lot to worry about before all THAT happens. I am getting married to my Rosa Ferrer (soon to be Rosa Rosa) this year, and that is a major big huge fucking deal. I'm so psyched and happy about that. It will, however, suck all the energy and monetary resources out of me, and rightfully so it will be the most important day of my life. As such, I will have to hold on to next year as the return of Evil Adam... which is not a bad thing. 2009 is 10 years from when Evil Adam started playing live, so maybe it all makes sense for that anyway.

Oh, and Ruben Rodriguez, Angel Rosa, and Will Bookman, you guys are already in my mind for set videos that are not part of the contest thingy... that will be for complete strangers to enter. Don't worry =)

More Recording Tonight

Jay and I are recording some more drum and bass tracks tonight, and no I don't meant the techno stuff. We're laying down the foundations for 3 songs and re-doing tracks for one song we did earlier, because, well this new setup sounds better. In the next month I have to finish up an assload of guitar and vocal tracks, so I'm very glad and thankful to Jay that he can do this for me.

This CD/release/album or whatever you want to call it is definitely going to kick ass. Finally I'll have something that really sounds like a professional recording for Evil Adam, though I really wish I could have had more people on it, like you know, a full band! Oh well, here's to hoping that this recording may just help me put those pieces together for next year.

So I wanted to join this band, that had no name, from Wayne, NJ. They had some awesome music up on Myspace and were looking for a vocalist. The only problem was that I have no car anymore. Silly me decides to ask them to try out for them by recording vocals to one of the tracks they already had up, and I did it, and really, I dug the hell out of the track. I liked how it was before I did anything to it and then I was really happy with my contribution. They loved it too, but the lack of a car made it tough for me to say, "Hey, we're bandmates, yay!" Anyhow, I tried contacting them and had no luck with a response, checking to see if they ever found someone. Here are the lyrics to the song I gave them.

A Note To Trent Reznor

While I may not be absolutely overcome with every last track of this Ghosts I-IV instrumental album, I will say that the method of getting it out there is absolutely genius. Very little promo or hype was used, save for that which was generated from the damn thing being released.

5 dollars for 36 tracks, even all instrumentals, is still highly damn reasonable.

I salute you, Mr. Reznor, as though most musicians like me will never attain the status you have, we can at least hope to be able to engineer our own musical destiny without the need for the recording industry folk telling us what to do with our own music. I've been giving away my music for many years as MP3s, just to gain willing ears, and I don't think that will stop any time soon, however I know I will be putting things out there to sell as well, because really, we all need to make a little something for our effort. You're a fucking genius Trent, seriously.

What I've been up to...

So, for those of you who care, I do stuff. More work was done on the next Evil Adam release, and this past Saturday went very well. 3 songs were tracked on drums and bass, bringing the total up to about 9.

So far Jay Curcio is the only person on this recording besides me, but I'm hoping to change that. I want John to do some basswork, and if one song I have in mind gets done I would want to bring in another person who was important to this song ever existing in to the mix as well, provided we can get the logistics worked out. Scheduling is a bitch!

Also, for those not in the know, I'm writing at www.castersrealm.com . The site is primarily focused on multiplayer role playing games, but I often get to skew the news towards my demented sense of humor. I started off just doing actual news posts but I'm also doing the "blog" thing from time to time, writing pieces that are not your standard gaming site ilk.

Anyhow, check out www.castersrealm.com and let me know what you think of it, and check back here for more info on "The Root of All Evil" which should be coming out this year, but I make no guarantee of that. 2009 isn't that far away when you're almost 30. Time is a fucking asshole.

So you're wondering what everyone has been up to, whether they are still part of Evil Adam or not? Ok, here is a quick rundown:

Jay Curcio and John DiGrazia are in Synthetic Sympathies.

Rob Beltran is now in Lamps Burning.

Rob Simmons newest solo project is Thirst for Hunger.

Yarely Rivera is currently in 36 Deadly Fists.

Izzie is a working man.

Martin is somewhere drumming with Jimmy Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morisson, and hopefuly staying away from John Denver.

Besides still doing the Evil Adam thing, Rene Rosa is also one half of Cousin!

Sure, the future of Evil Adam is cloudy, not unlike a drunken man's piss, but there will be a pretty damn good release this year. "The Root of All Evil" will continue to be worked on in a big way this weekend, so be on the look out for more info on this remake/renewing musical release soon!

Why Evil Adam Came About

There are a lot of reasons why Evil Adam came to exist, in a semantic and technical level, but then there are the things that inspired the whole look, feel, sound, and lyrical content to everything that has been written under the Evil Adam banner.

My father told me to check out a film he started to watch online and, well, I have to share it with you. http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/ After watching it I was reminded of all the things that used to keep me up at night, wondering, thinking, debating, and eventually dreaming about.

I'm not saying that everything on this video is 100% accurate and correct but I definitely agree with the first chapter of the film. The best thing about it is that this was made with no intention of taking in a bankroll for it, so you are able to download it for free as a torrent or just stream it from the Google Video site. Anyhow, check it out, watch it with an open mind, and feel free to comment here to discuss it with me.

You probably don't remember listening to Evil Adam or even know what Rene Rosa looks like. So far this blog system is nice and simple and easy to update and I like it just fine. It took a little work to get my template around it, but hey, what are ye gonna do.
